What is the Adult Child Well-Being I Matter Framework?
Joined up Thinking:
From Confusion to Clarity at School, at Home and in the Community
WHAT IS IT? WHY SHOULD I TAKE PART?
The I Matter Framework is a really practical integration of decades of research evidence presented in a really easy to understand way,
The training was drawn together to help adults who want to understand how to help challenging and struggling children.
Training helps professionals and parents to feel more confident in their ability to see how a wide range of everyday issues can be integrated together as part of a developmentally sensitive and relationship focussed approach. The approach can be offered in home, school or community settings and is relevant to a wide range of needs. It can be used to support everyday parenting and caring for typical children or it can be a foundation for therapeutic care for the more challenging or complex child.
The I Matter Framework and the linked training journey has been developed by Dr Cathy Betoin, a practising clinical psychologist and experienced teacher to address the huge gap in training provision for parents and professionals of the challenging child. The difficulty observed is the common confusions that can arise when pressures increase on children and families and there are a multiple range of therapies and approaches on offer. I Matter Framework Training draws together a wide literature on stress states, child development, brain development and the adult role and the power of our beliefs and attitudes and makes core principles clear, accessible and practical.

WHAT'S INVOLVED?
The I Matter Framework uses supported online learning - accessible by lap top or phone. The intention is to support reflective thinking so that links can be made between theory ideas and everyday lived experiences. Sometimes professionals or parents study alone or with 1:1 study support but we find that participants get better value from their learning if they can get to know a small group of others with matched needs. The study support can be delivered in face to face or via web based sessions or through a combination of both.
What's involved in an I Matter Journey?
At the start of an I Matter Journey we focus closely on building the adults confidence in the importance of their own role. This starts off with a First Steps stage and an informal self-assessment process or a more detailed registration process. Both enables us to provide you with some clear recommendations about what type of support you will need to get best value from the online learning.
The more detailed process is required for supported learning. and enables us to offer you guidance on specific priorities for an action plan so that you will be able to monitor progress over time. We return to the I Matter Questionnaire regularly as the journey progresses. The process can help with:
+ Short term plans - building a plan on your initial registration information
+ Medium term plans - building a plan based on a careful detailed I Matter questionnaire assessment
+ Longer term plans - based on a reviewing of progress

HOW IS THE TRAINING STRUCTURED?
I Matter Framework Training is carefully structured to create a journey for parents and supporting professionals through essential ‘must know’ concepts. Some professionals and parents may not need more than the earliest stages of the training journey. The longer journey is particularly designed for those who have children with additional challenges or for professionals who are wanting to take forward a development in their own setting.

WHO PROVIDES STUDY SUPPORT AND WHAT IS THAT?
I Matter Framework learning is supported by professionals and parents who have themselves completed the Foundation and Intermediate courses and have joined our Link and Lead Professional training.network. We are planning to develop a training programme for a team of advanced practitioners who can offer focussed coaching.
HOW MUCH TIME IS INVOLVED AND WHAT ARE THE COSTS?
The following prices are those for professionals coming to the project as an independent or as the first person for an organisation. Professionals linked to organisations where there is senior leadership support have the opportunity to apply to become a Link Professional and can then are eligible to offer discounts on these prices to those in their setting. Those interesting in becoming Lead Schools can take a full licence that reduces the full price to inhouse professionals or parents to zero. However it is our experience that engagement is always facilitated by asking participants to contribute something to the costs of their own training.
