About Dr Cathy Betoin and Adult-Child Relationship Health
Welcome to my blog!
My name is Dr Cathy Betoin. I am a clinical psychologist , an experienced teacher and a parent myself.
What do you do when something doesn't exist? Something that seems should be there but isn't?
There is an awkward process of trying to put thoughts into words - of arranging and rearranging ideas.
It is a rather messy process but there are markers on the way. Ah ha moments.

In the early days this website-blog served as a notepad - a private process that I didn't particularly want anyone to find. Now I don't want to delete them! So I realised I am attached to these original Adult-Child Relationship Musings as they are important to the history of what has become I Matter Training and the I Matter Project
They represent my attempt to share my view that if we want to tackle the crisis in children's mental health and wellbeing we need a new practice model in education and in children's mental health.
Our children need us to think more clearly about what they need from us as adults.

News and Projects
It took me a long time to work out why I felt so concerned about what I was seeing in children's mental health and wellbeing practice. How was it possible that we were all working so hard with such unsatisfactory outcomes? Eventually the pieces started to fall into place and as they did I realised with a shock that routine policies and practices, even in specialist services, were collectively overlooking some vital well-evidenced details.
+ children's social emotional development
+ the significance of adult child relationships
+ the appearance of stress states
+ the longer term nature of most key needs
I wrestled with this understanding - as the ideas came together into teachable form the insights were so helpful and practical - but what should I do with it? Eventually I decided I needed to find a way to get my understanding of the ideas out to more people and so the Adult-Child Well-Being 'I Matter' Project was born. Then there was a process. The journey was way more challenging - and rewarding - than I expected. However we have kept taking small important steps forward.
