About Dr Cathy Betoin - The I Matter Lady
Dr Cathy Betoin, Founder and Director of the I Matter Project is a practising clinical psychologist, an experienced teacher and a parent. She is sometimes referred to by the children of clients as 'The I Matter Lady' and so a name was born.
After nearly 30 years of practice with children and adults with complex social emotional needs seen in the context of CAMHS and Child Psychology, Adoption, Fostering and Paediatric services, I now specialise in adult-child relationship health, with a focus on understanding challenging complex behaviour in children in the context of confusion, overwhelm and exhaustion in adults. As a specialist, I take the guesswork out of the return to well-being and health at home and in the community.
I train professionals and parents and lead a team of practitioners in the Kendal area in an I Matter approach. Together we identify the contributors to the adult-child relationship challenges including where adult-child relationships are on the path to recovery of relationship health individually and collectively. With our joined up thinking approach, we help you systematically address the factors that are contributing to the current difficulties and help you move forward with tried and tested solutions that support a step by step journey back to family and classroom wellbeing being and health. This is based on developing an understanding of healthy social development in both children and adults. I am committed to finding ways to provide meaningful support to parents and professionals , so that understanding increases between home and school and community and so that the real skills that are needed to make a difference to our children get strengthened.
In my spare time I love walking in the Lake District and Pyreneean fells and cycling with my recently acquired electric bike!
The project has emerged from a long period of study and reflection, It has recently been adopted by the Kendal Integrated Care Community as a framework on which to build the local strategy with children and families. We are now currently working with Morecambe Bay CCG to share our learning with a wider network reaching out to other ICC's across South Cumbria
